What physicians are saying about the Pillar Procedure

Four leading physicians discuss other treatment options and why the Pillar Procedure meets the needs of so many patients. These physicians and their patients have experienced firsthand the benefit of this simple, safe, effective treatment for snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). More than 1,500 physicians have been trained to perform the Pillar Procedure.

Treatment options and the Pillar Procedure

"I’m the biggest chicken in the world, and I hate pain, so I don’t want my patients having pain. And the classical surgery for obstructive sleep apnea was one of the most painful procedures performed in our specialty and probably in any surgical specialty. So not only are the patients shying away from surgery, but most physicians shy away from the classical surgery unless it’s absolutely necessary. It seemed so simple, I was shocked and amazed when I first saw the effects on my patients."

"A recent study has demonstrated that the Pillar Procedure is showing long term benefits to patients - and certainly to patients who are frustrated every night putting their CPAP on - they would consider the Pillar Procedure a great alternative".

"It makes me as a physician feel so good when patients come back to me and say 'You know this works. I feel better. My quality of life is better. I'm back at work. I'm back with my bedmate. I'm back with my friends going golfing, fishing, travelling.'"

"The real advantage to this procedure from the patient’s standpoint is that it has very minimal discomfort – and it’s only done once. Some of the other procedures, that had minimal pain, also required multiple visits. So I think this, right now, is the most elegant alternative around for treating the palate."

Dr. Thomas Okner, M.D.
Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery, PA
Woodbury, Minnesota

The Pillar® System is indicated for use in a) the reduction of symptomatic, habitual or social snoring caused by a flutter of tissue in the soft palate, and/or b) upper airway obstruction in patients with mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea or "OSA". The Pillar System is a minimally invasive implant that is used to stiffen the soft palate tissue to reduce the flutter that causes snoring and/or palatal obstruction of the upper airway.
